AN INTRODUCTION

Course Overview

The Emergency Paediatric First Aid course is designed to provide individuals with the essential skills to manage emergency situations involving infants and children in childcare settings.

This course meets the Ofsted requirements for early years providers and is ideal for those who need to meet the first aid requirements for working with children. It covers a range of life-saving techniques, ensuring that participants can confidently manage emergency situations involving babies, children, and young people in a professional, safe, and effective manner.

This face to face course will be delivered by one of our highly experienced and engaging Paramedic instructors. Using their real life experiences, they are able to bring this course to life ensuring that all delegates are able to feel confident and competent upon completion of the course.

Training will be adapted to suit the learning needs of the delegates so that everybody has the same opportunities to succeed and includes a mixture of theoretical and practical elements.

The day runs for 6 hours with regular breaks included. Timings can be flexible to suit the needs of the client.

COURSE CONTENT

What Will You Learn

In this Emergency Paediatric First Aid course, you will learn how to assess and manage emergencies involving infants and children, including performing CPR, treating choking, bleeding, and minor injuries. You will also gain skills to respond to common childhood conditions such as asthma and seizures, and manage unconscious casualties. By the end, you’ll be prepared to handle emergencies confidently and meet Ofsted requirements for childcare settings.

Topics Covered

The Emergency Paediatric First Aid course includes the following key topics: 

  • The Role of the Paediatric First Aider
  • Responsibilities and limitations of first aiders in a childcare setting Infection control and hygiene practices (e.g., the use of gloves, washing  hands)
  • Incident recording and reporting requirements
  • Assessing Emergency Situations and Prioritising Actions
  • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) for Infants and Children Managing Unconscious Casualties
  • Recovery position for children and infants
  • Treating Choking in Infants and Children
  • Managing Bleeding, Wounds, and Minor Injuries
  • Recognising and Treating Shock
  • Head Injuries, Sprains, and Fractures in Children
  • Managing Medical Emergencies
  • Common childhood conditions like asthma, allergies, and febrile seizures Childhood Burns and Scalds
  • Poisoning and Managing a Seizure

    This course is interactive and practical, including:

    • Demonstrations and instructor-led reviews
    • Hands-on practice with first aid scenarios
    • Group discussions and skills refresh exercises

    HOW YOU WILL PASS

    aSSESSMENT mETHODS

    • The course includes both practical assessments and a multiple choice assessment
    • Participants will receive an accredited Emergency Paediatric First Aid certificate, valid for three years. This certificate meets the Ofsted requirements for childcare settings.
